Andy Reid has addressed the reasoning behind the trade that sent Asante Samuel to the Falcons for a seventh-round pick. Fans in Philadelphia were upset that the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback was dealt for so little in return. "I completely understand our fans," the Eagles coach said. "He was one of my favorite guys. He was a good football player. But this is the name of the game in the National Football League. There's going to be change that takes place." Moving Samuel allows the Eagles to start Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie on one side and Nnamdi Asomugha on the other. Both can play press coverage or play off the receiver, while Samuel was exclusively an off corner. "We try to exploit everybody's strength as players," Reid said. "Asante's best stuff was off and outside. And that's what we tried to do the years that he was here. With that, you're a bit limited. Listen, his production was great. He's a good player. These guys, you can do different things with, and we'll see how their production works out."

The Dolphins plan to hold onto Jake Long despite a report suggesting that his time with the team may be ending soon. "I'd like to clear the air on an article," general manager Jeff Ireland said. "I don't normally go overboard on media speculation. But last night I saw an article about Jake Long. I have plans to keep Jake Long here for a long time. So, let's don't get ahead of ourselves. ... We drafted Jonathan Martin to be a tackle on this football team, a right tackle on this football team. Let's don't speculate any further than that."

The Cowboys are still shopping Mike Jenkins in a trade, but there have been no serious suitors as of Sunday afternoon. While the front office has praised Jenkins, there appears to be some concern about his participation in the offseason program. The program is voluntary, but coming off shoulder surgery Dallas wanted to see him take part. The Cowboys traded up in the first round on Thursday night to take Morris Claiborne.

The Browns do not expect to trade quarterback Colt McCoy despite drafting 28-year-old quarterback Brandon Weeden, according to a team source. Cleveland general manager Tom Heckert had said Thursday that the team was considering moving McCoy after taking Weeden. The selection of Weeden came after the Browns told McCoy on draft day that they wouldn't take a quarterback in the first round, a league source told Schefter. The Browns have denied telling McCoy that.

After drafting Ohio State wide receiver DeVier Posey in the third round, the Texans are reportedly looking to trade Jacoby Jones. Jones will make $3 million under his contract next season. He has been with the Texans since they drafted him in the third round back in 2007. He had 31 receptions for 512 yards and two touchdowns last season.

Browns quarterback Colt McCoy is not requesting a trade, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. McCoy is eager to compete with Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden, whom the Browns drafted at No. 22 Thursday night, and not looking to leave Cleveland.

The Browns are discussing the possibility of trading Colt McCoy after drafting quarterback Brandon Weeden with the 28th overall pick. "It's something we'll talk about tonight and [Friday]," general manager Tom Heckert said. Heckert said the Browns selected Weeden to be a future starter -- perhaps immediately. McCoy, a former third-round pick, made 13 starts last season before missing the final three games with a concussion.

A number of teams are looking to trade up to the start of the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft so they can take North Alabama cornerback Janoris Jenkins, according to league executives.

The Cowboys are shopping Mike Jenkins, who they now regard as expendable. Dallas is willing to move the defensive back this weekend, according to a source. The club signed Brandon Carr in free agency and surprised many by trading up to draft Morris Claiborne on Thursday night.

The Lions are looking for ways to trade up to a higher pick in Thursday night's NFL Draft. Detroit is believed to be targeting cornerback Stephon Gilmore.
